寒い寒いウェールズの冬のある晩、ドンッドンッと扉をたたく音が。
「こんな日に誰？」と窓からのぞくと、闇の中に浮かびあがる馬の骸骨😱!!
マリ・ルイドは英国ウェールズで行われる年末年始期間の伝統行事。
リボンや電球で飾られた馬の頭蓋骨が家々を訪ねて歌合戦を挑み、
招き入れられた家庭に幸福な1年を約束します。
いうなれば、ウェールズ版なまはげ😅。
2026年1月9日にカマーゼンシャーのマナーハウスで行われたこのイベントを、
現地在住の関西ウェールズ協会メンバーが取材しました。
単に最新映像をお見せするだけでなく、ひろのちかこ（関西ウェールズ協会）が
マリ・ルイドの説明やウェールズ史におけるマリ・ルイドの位置、
マリ・ルイドを復活させたウェールズ人の心情などを解説。
映像紹介パートでは、なかうちゆうこ（ボレダ企画）をＭＣに、
取材・編集担当の渡辺丈起が実際のイベントの様子や感想を語ります。

On a freezing winter’s night in Wales, a loud "thump, thump" echoes at the door.
"Who could it be on a night like this?" you wonder, peering out the window
—only to see a horse’s skull looming in the darkness! 😱
Mari Lwyd is a traditional New Year’s custom in Wales. A horse’s skull, decorated with
ribbons and lights, visits homes to challenge residents to a singing battle (pwnco).
Once welcomed inside, it promises a year of good fortune to the household.
It is, in a sense, the Welsh version of Japan’s "Namahage." 😅
A member of the Kansai St David's Society living in Wales covered this event,
which took place on January 9, 2026, at a manor house in Carmarthenshire.
This program goes beyond just showing the latest footage.
Chikako Hirono (Kansai St David's Society) provides commentary on
what the Mari Lwyd is, its place in Welsh history, and the sentiments of
the Welsh people who revived this tradition.
In the video segment, MC Yuko Nakauchi (Bore da Kikaku) is joined by
Takeyuki Watanabe, the reporter/editor, to share his firsthand experience
and impressions of the event.
